Job Description Summary
We are seeking a part-time research assistant to serve as a key member of a team conducting a pragmatic trial that seeks to optimize the collection of social and behavioral determinants of health (SBDOH) for patients with new diagnoses of breast cancer and to identify logistical barriers to timely receipt of guideline-concordant care. This study will analyze rates of SBDOH data collection using three different self-administered instruments and three different modalities for collection (patient portal, text chatbot, or telephone). The goal is to identify the optimal combinations of modality and data collection instrument to facilitate collection among diverse patients with breast cancer.
Position Overview:
The Research Assistant will support regulatory and operational aspects of the study. The core day-to-day responsibilities of the Research Assistant include patient recruitment and enrollment; carefully and accurately collecting data from patients; organizing and maintaining the accuracy of all study documentation; preparing for and participating in study meetings; and administering instruments in person across four sites: the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine (PCAM); Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC); Pennsylvania Hospital (PAH); and/or Penn Medicine Radnor.
This position in contingent on continued grant funding.
Qualifications
High School Grad/GE Degree and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Applicants should demonstrate excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, and must be competent and comfortable working with patients, clinicians, and researchers. Must be highly motivated and possess the ability to work independently and also as part of a team. Should be able to learn new tasks quickly, multi-task, and shift between different software applications to complete required duties. Strong problem-solving skills and familiarity with medical abbreviations, REDCap, and hospital medical record systems a plus.
