About the Position:
The Office of Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness (OAIE) leads systematic and integrated efforts to explore the impact of university programs, curricula, services and operations. We provide meaningful data to support strategic planning and decision-making at all levels of the university and we play a critical role in demonstrating accountability to accreditation, external entities and the general public. Our commitment is to foster a campus-wide culture of data-informed decision-making, continuous improvement, and teaching and learning innovations. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Student Success Analyst (Research Technician III). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Situated in OAIE, this position will lead student success analytics for Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), as well as support university-wide data needs. The Student Success Analyst will perform a wide range of analytical and research assignments that support university and HSS initiatives and data needs. The position involves working independently on project design, data collection, database creation, data analysis, analytical interpretation, and report preparation with very general direction or oversight. The position responds to external surveys and ad hoc requests, and updates dashboards relevant to the scope of responsibilities. It also supports accreditation, program review, and assessment processes at the university and college level as appropriate. This position will have the opportunity to engage collaboratively with relevant administrators and faculty to facilitate immediate changes by working with the largest and most diverse college on campus, the College of HSS. Fifty percent of the appointment time will be committed to university-wide data support efforts, and fifty percent will be committed to comparable work focused on and originated in HSS (particularly the Dean's office). Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Knowledges and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of research techniques, including the planning of studies and investigations, the determining of variables and the developing of reference materials; thorough knowledge of research reporting techniques; general knowledge of machine tabulation techniques and the programming of data; thorough knowledge of the techniques and treatment of data such as simple correlation methods, trend analysis, frequency distribution analysis, sampling techniques, hypothesis testing and methods of interval estimation; familiarity with the principles of personnel management and effective supervision and ability to direct the work of Others. Ability to reason logically and capacity for independent and creative thinking on research problems; ability to develop techniques for handling a large variety of detailed data and ability to analyze these data; ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; ability to speak and write effectively; ability to analyze situations accurately and to adopt an effective course of action. Experience: Three years of progressively responsible technical research or statistical experience including or supplemented by one year in the interpretation and graphic presentation of data. Graduate study in the social sciences, economics, mathematics, statistics, public or business administration or engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university. (Additional qualifying professional experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.)

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree from an accredited college or university in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Social Sciences, Quantitative Research or related field from an accredited college or university that includes a heavy emphasis on statistical analysis, computer applications, and research methodology. Five years of progressively responsible experience in data analysis, research, and evaluation in a higher education environment, preferably within a comprehensive university setting. Experience with a high-level programming language (e.g. C, Python, Java). Experience simultaneously analyzing multiple large complex databases. Experience developing Tableau Dashboards (or similar data visualization tools). Experience conducting mixed-method research (quantitative and qualitative). Proven teamwork skills in a fast-paced environment. Professional experience at a CSU campus.
