Job Summary
The Roy Lab at the Moran Eye is seeking a Research Assistant to support a range of wet-lab activities. Primary responsibilities will include retinal tissue dissection, immunohistochemical and molecular assays, confocal imaging, and basic analysis of imaging data. The candidate will help with tissue processing and data collection across multiple projects, working in coordination with students, postdocs, and senior lab members. Strong communication skills are essential. The candidate may also need to assist with procedures such as in vivo retinal imaging using animal models. The candidate will receive training from the PI and/or other experienced lab members in all necessary techniques. The candidate will also receive mentorship for skill development and career growth.
The lab is supportive and collaborative, but it is also fast-paced and engaged in several projects. While there will be opportunities to learn new skills, a certain degree of independence is expected to succeed in this role. The ability to learn quickly and being able to work with deadlines (if needed) will be considered a strength.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Coordinating with researchers to obtain and store harvested retinal/brain tissues.
- Making solutions/reagents. Processing tissues for IHC, IF.
- Working with light microscope and imaging tissues using confocal microscope.
- Analyzing images using software (ImageJ) and generating quantifiable results using statistical methods.
- Reviewing literature relevant to work.
- Maintaining accurate electronic records of experimental details and results.
- Participating in lab meetings and presenting results.
- Collaborative, supportive, fast-paced. Wet lab and digital work. There may be exposure to animals.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2-3 years of work experience in a lab environment.
- Completed or pursuing a bachelor's degree in biology, genetics, neuroscience, or a related field.
- Proficiency in tissue handling and dissection.
Preferences
- Experience with microscopy work and fine tissue dissection.
- Experience with handling and disposal of biological specimens, solution preparation, tissue fixation, tissue sectioning, immunohistochemical processing, and epifluorescence/confocal imaging.
- Experience with animal (mouse/rat) handling in a lab environment.
- Quick learner, coordinate with lab members, organize data and keep meticulous records of procedures.
- Communicative.
